Aziderm Cream is used for the treatment of skin blemishes. Containing the active ingredient azelaic acid, Aziderm Cream kills the bacteria that causes acne and rosacea and helps the skin to renew quickly to reduce blemishes on the skin.

Aziderm Cream is manufactured in India by Micro Lab. It is sold in 20% 15 gm tubes. The US name brand is Finacea Cream.


The active ingredient azelaic acid in Aziderm Cream is a natural compound found in barley, rye, and wheat. It works by killing the bacteria in the pores and reducing the amount of keratin produced that is responsible for the development acne. It is also used to treat rosacea, a skin condition characterized by redness, pustules, swelling, and enlarged blood vessels on the face. This medication is in a category of drugs called dicarboxylic acids.

Warnings and Precautions

When using Aziderm Cream it is important that you follow all of your doctor's instruction. Do not exceed the dosage prescribed and take the medication for the entire time prescribed by your doctor. You may experience symptom relief before the prescription is complete, continue taking the medication anyway.

Aziderm Cream should not be used if you are allergic to it or any of its ingredients or if you are allergic propylene glycol.

The cream should not be applied to areas of the face that have sensitive skin such as around the eyes, mouth, nose or other parts of the body that has sensitive skin. Aziderm Cream should not be applied to skin that is injured such as irritated, chapped, windburned, sunburned skin, or skin that is bruised.

Talk to your doctor before using Aziderm Cream if you are pregnant, plan to become pregnant, or if you are breast feeding.
Do not apply other medications that are for the treatment of acne or rosacea at the same time as you are applying Aziderm Cream unless instructed by your doctor. Doing so could cause serious damage to the skin.

Your doctor may advise you to avoid certain foods while applying Aziderm Cream such as drinking alcohol, spicy foods, or other foods that may cause rashes or flushing of the skin.
Do not use harsh skin products while using Aziderm Cream as they may irritate the skin.

Do not cover skin after Aziderm Cream applied, this may cause too much azelaic acid to be absorbed into the skin that could cause an adverse reaction.
If you forget to apply Aziderm Cream, apply it as soon as you remember. If it is almost time for the next dose, skip the missed one and apply the next dose. Never apply an amount greater than is prescribed

If you accidentally apply too much Aziderm Cream, wash you face immediately with a gentle soap and water. Applying too much azelaic acid can cause a severe skin reaction such as change in skin color, dryness, flushing, hives, itching, severe burning, and stinging that requires medical attention.
Aziderm Cream should be stored at room temperature in a dry location out of the reach of children and pets. Aziderm Cream should not be stored in the bathroom medicine cabinet.

Drug Interactions

As with most medications, there is a chance of experiencing a drug interaction when applying azelaic acid. Discuss with your doctor what medications you are taking to avoid a drug interaction; this includes prescriptions and over-the-counter medications, vitamins, and herbal remedies. Never start a new medication without approval from your doctor.

Azelaic acid should not be used with any skin product or medication that contains:

  • Abrasives
  • Alcohol
  • Astringents
  • Skin peeling agents
  • Tinctures

Your doctor or pharmacist can provide a complete list of drugs and medications that should be avoided while using Aziderm Cream.

How to use

Apply Aziderm Cream as prescribed by your doctor. You should not stop taking it or change the dosage without your doctor's approval. Apply for the entire time prescribed by your doctor even if your symptoms have subsided or have disappeared.

Wash your hands and the affected skin with warm water and a mild soap or cleanser. Pat the skin dry, do not rub to dry.
Apply a small amount of Aziderm Cream, usually an amount the size of a pea, to the affected area in a thin layer. Do not cover unless instructed to do so by your doctor. The usual dosage is twice a day, in the morning and at night before bed.

Wash hand thoroughly after applying. Do not get cream into eyes or the inside of the mouth or nose. If this accidently happens rinse carefully with cool water. If symptoms of irritation continue get medical attention.
You should see result within a month, don't be alarmed if symptoms worsen before they improve, this is normal.

Possible Side Effects

Some users may experience side effects when azelaic acid is applied. It is important that you are aware of possible side effects and what to do if you experience any of them. Not all users will experience a side effect.
These common side effects may occur during the first few weeks of use:

  • Burning
  • Itching
  • Redness
  • Peeling
  • Stinging

These symptoms should diminish as your skin adjusts to the medication. If they persist or get worse get medical attention.
If you experience any of these very serious side effects get immediate medical attention:

  • Asthma symptoms that worsen
  • Difficulty breathing
  • Difficulty swallowing
  • Dizziness
  • Hives
  • Persistent itching
  • Rash
  • Swelling of face, mouth, throat, or lips

Contact your doctor as soon as possible if you experience any side effects or seek immediate medical attention if the symptoms persist or get worse. If you experience any other unusual reaction after using Aziderm Cream, contact your doctor immediately.
