Details about Lomitas

Lomitas contains the active ingredient lomefloxacin, a form of antibiotic known as flurorquinolones used to fight infections such as bronchitis and urinary tract infections. Lomitas is prescribed for infections in the body but is not effective for the treatment of viral infections such as the common cold or flu.

Warnings and Precautions

Before taking any prescription drugs you should discuss your health history and the medications your currently take with your doctor. It is important to read the patient information leaflet enclosed with the medication.
Do not take Lomitas if you are allergic to it or any of its ingredients or if you have had an allergic reaction to similar types of antibiotics in the past.

You should not take Lomitas if you have had myasthenia gravis. Tell your doctor if you have any of the following medical conditions heart arrhythmia, kidney disease, diabetes, liver disease, muscle weakness, difficulty breathing, past head injury, tumors, history of Long QT syndrome, or seizures.

Do not take antacids or supplements within 6 hours of the scheduled dosage time of Lomitas.
Lomitas may cause diarrhea, if you have bloody or watery stool get medical attention as soon as possible.
Injury of or tearing of tendons is possible while taking Lomitas especially in patients over 60 years of age and in patients who also have had heart, lung or kidney transplants. Get medical attention if you have joint pain while taking Lomitas.

Take the full course of treatment to avoid relapse and an antibiotic resistant infection.
Lomitas may cause harm to an unborn baby so it important to tell your doctor if you are pregnant or are planning to become pregnant. In addition, Lomitas can pass through breast milk to nursing babies and charm the child. Ask your doctor if it is safe for you to take Lomitas.

It is important to remember to take every dose of antibiotic medication on time to prevent the infection from becoming resistant to antibiotics. If you do miss a dose take it as soon as you remember unless it is almost time for the next dose, wait and take the next dose. Do not take an extra dose to make up for a missed one.

In case of an accidental overdose get immediate medical attention. Symptoms of an overdose include seizures, trouble urinating, weakness, pale skin, and blue lips.
Lomitas should be stored in a cool dry location out of the reach of children and pets.

Drug Interactions

There are known medications that may interact with Lomitas. Do not start taking a new medication without telling your doctor that you take Lomitas.
Medications with known interactions include but are not limited to:

  • Steroids
  • Ropinirole
  • Ibuprofen
  • Glyburid
  • Clozapine
  • Blood thinners

How to use

It is important to follow your doctor's instruction for taking Lomitas. Your dosage will be determined by factors such as age, allergies, and the severity of your condition. Do not stop taking or change the dosage of your medication without the approval of your doctor.

Lomitas should be taken with a full glass of water without food on an empty stomach. Take one hour before eating or wait two hours after eating to allow the medication to be absorbed.

Possible Side Effects

Lomitas is subject to possible side effects some of which may be life threatening. Stop taking Lomitas and get immediate medical attention if you have any of the following side effects:

  • Unusual bleeding or bruising
  • Tinnitus
  • Swelling of the face, lips tongue, or throat
  • Severe headaches
  • Seizures
  • Peeling or blistering of skin
  • Jaundice
  • Irregular heartbeat
  • Hives
  • Hallucinations
  • Fainting
  • Difficulty swallowing
  • Difficulty breathing
  • Diarrhea
  • Changes in vision
  • Changes in urination
