What does Tadalafil do to the system?
Tadalafil ensures enhanced blood flow to certain parts of the body. It finds primary usage in men with erectile dysfunction. At the same time it is also used in those who may be suffering from benign prostatic hypertrophy. Additionally, Tadalafil also finds usage in pulmonary arterial hypertension patients who can now exercise a whole lot better with it.
Tadalafil works by relaxing blood vessels in the lungs which ensures smooth flow of blood.

Tadalafil is offered under a variety of brand names such as Ranbaxy’s Forzest, Ajanta’s Tadalis and Apcalis Oral Jelly, Cipla’s Tadacip, as well as Macleod’s Megalis among others.

Side Effects
Tadalafil should be avoided in tandem with nitrate based medications, which are typically taken by those with heart conditions. Isosrobide Dinitrate, Nitroglycerin, and Isosorbide Mononitrate are also examples of nitrate based medications. Then there are other drugs in the recreational category such as Amyl Nitrite and Nitrite which also contain nitrates and therefore do no go along with Tadalafil.

The reason the above are not recommended is because in combination (with Tadalafil) they can potentially lead to a sudden drop in blood pressure which can in turn lead to a possible stroke or a heart attack.
Other side effects include pain, a feeling of numbness, swelling, and a tingling sensation in various parts of the body, among others. If in case any of these symptoms are observed, it is advisable that sexual activity is stopped. Immediate consultation with a medical professional is also strongly recommended.

A prolonged and painful erection is another side effect which is very commonly observed. Again, immediate medical advice is recommended since otherwise, there could be damage to the penis.
Then there is a possible side effect of sudden loss of vision in the eyes which is typically caused by blood flow to the optic nerve in the eyes being inhibited. This usually happens in those with prior medical conditions such as diabetes, high blood pressure or heart disease, as well as those above the age of 50, who also happen to smoke. This vision loss is unlikely to be permanent though. Yet, in case you experience this, it is advisable that you stop taking Tadalafil and also consult a doctor immediately.

Other side effects include chest pain, a feeling of heaviness, fainting, a ringing sensation in the ears, light headedness, among others.

Prior to commencing with Tadalafil
It is advisable that before commencing on a Tadalafil regimen you seek appropriate medical advice especially if you have any health issues such as heart disease, particularly if you have had a heart attack or a stroke in the recent past. Other health conditions which may not deem that you take Tadalafil would include peptic ulcers, liver or kidney diseases, multiple myeloma, leukemia, Peyronie’s disease or any other disease / deformity of the penis, retinitis pigmentosa, as well as high or low blood pressure. You should also let your doctor know in case you have been advised against sexual activity for any reason.

Further, while FDA norms do not prevent pregnant or lactating women from ingesting Tadalafil, it is always advisable that women in these conditions consult doctors before commencing on a Tadalafil regimen.

Dosage should be as per instructions received from the doctor in tandem with dosage prescribed on the medication. Do not change dosage without medical consultation. Also, avoid consuming more than your prescribed dosage.
It should ideally be taken half an hour to an hour prior to sexual activity. It can even be taken 4 hours before, but no two doses should be taken within 24 hours of one another.

Missing Doses
In most cases, this is really not a concern given that Tadalafil is largely taken on a need-based basis. Yet if you are on a schedule for Tadalafil intake, then it is advised that you take the dose that you missed as soon as possible. However you can forget about the missed dose if it is already time for the next one, so that you do not end up taking two doses too close to one another.

An overdose can potentially cause a painful or prolonged erection, dizziness, or fainting.
Immediate medical attention in case of an overdose is advised.

Ideal Dosage
Ideal Tadalafil dosage is determined by your doctor based on your medical history. Determinants include your age, gender, purpose, extent of the problem, and any allergies that you may have. It is essential that you stick to the dosage that has been prescribed to you.

Interactions with other Drugs
Tadalafil is known to interact with certain other drugs, which is why caution is earnestly advised. For instance, HIV /AIDS medication like Darunavir, Ritonavir, and Atazanavir can be detrimental along with Tadalafil as can antifungal drugs like Itraconazole. Antibiotics like Clarithromycin and Erythromycin are also not advised, along with antidepressants like Rifapentine, Rifabuting, and Rifampin. Still other medications not advised in tandem with Tadalafil include Hepatitis C drugs like Boceprevir and Telaprevir; prostate medications like Prazosin; and high blood pressure / heart medications like Amlodipine and Diltiazem.

There could be other drugs that could interact with Tadalafil as well. Therefore, it is always advisable that you check with your doctor before commencing with Tadalafil, if you are already taking medication for any other purpose.
