Mintop Lotion - 2% (60 ml)

Minoxidil

Mintop Lotion – 2% (60 ml)
Minoxidil works on ensuring hair growth and slowing baldness. It is best prescribed for those below the age of 40 who may be experiencing premature baldness. It does not really have an impact on receding hairlines as such. Moreover, it does not cure baldness – if you stop taking the medication, new hair which has grown may fall off. Its primary usage is in treating male pattern baldness. At the same time, it can be used to treat thinning of hair in women, in the frontal portions of the scalp.

Usage
Offered in liquid form, it is meant to be applied twice a day on the scalp. 1 ml of solution or half a capful of foam should suffice. Apply it in the mornings and evenings on a dry scalp. Spread it evenly on all affected areas. Leave it on for at least 4 hours. And continue using it for a prolonged period for best results.

Side Effects
Possible side effects of Minoxidil could include scaling, dryness, itching or burning sensation, irritation and flaking.
There could be some other, relatively more serious side effects as well, for which you must make sure to consult your doctor at the earliest:

  • Lightheadedness
  • Change (typically an increase) in heart beat rate
  • Chest pain
  • Swelling in certain parts of the body, especially the face, stomach, ankles or hands
  • Weight gain
  • Difficulty in breathing, especially in the lying down position

Also bear in mind that Minoxidil contains alcohol which can lead to irritation in the eyes or any other sensitive areas, if it enters them. If that happens, make sure to wash thoroughly with cold water.
A final note would be that do not use Minoxidil with other topical medications since that can only increase the rate at which Minoxidil is absorbed into the system, aggravating the chances of side effects.

Also remember to wash your hands both before and after applying the lotion. Quantity wise, do not use more than 2 ml in a day. While applying, be cautious so that the lotion does not get into your mouth, nose or eyes.

Timings
Your doctor will guide you on when to apply, typically twice a day.

Duration
Again, it is your doctor who will guide you on the duration for which you are to apply Minoxidil. Typically 4 months is the minimum with a year’s time frame not being out of the norm either. You must not discontinue all of a sudden since that can cause new hair growth to fall off.

Overdose
Chances of an overdose are relatively less since it is a topical medication. Yet if you know you have applied too much or somehow are not feeling alright even if you have applied the right quantity, it is best that you get in touch with your doctor as soon as possible. Excess application can have side effects such as a feeling of warmth in the affected area, along with redness and possible headache as well.

Missing doses
If you apply at near about the same time each day then the chances of you missing out on a dose are relatively slim. Yet, if you still forget, apply it the next time it is due. Do not double dose simply because you forgot to apply the last time around.
