About

Tiova is an antocholinergic that is inhaled into the lungs to open airways. Used to treat breathing difficulties, Tiova Inhalers is prescribed for the treatment of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease or COPD. Tiova is not intended for the treatment of asthma attacks. For asthma attacks or other shortness of breath, use a fast acting inhaler or medicine.

Details

Tiova Inhalers, active ingredient tiotropium bromide, makes breathing easier for patients suffering from COPD. Tiova Inhalers is available in capsule dosage form intended for oral inhalation using an inhaler. The capsules contain a dry powder form of tiotropium used to treat COPD such as chronic bronchitis or emphysema.

Tiova Inhalers work by relaxing the smooth muscles of the airways and improved secretion of mucus from the bronchiole and nasal passages.
Tiova Inhalers are manufactured by Cipla Pharmaceuticals Limited, India. It is available in the following forms and strengths 18 mcg Inhalers and 18 mcg Inhalers with Rotahalers. US name brand is Spiriva .

Warnings and Precautions

When using Tiova Inhalers it is important that you follow all of your doctor's instruction. Do not exceed the dosage prescribed and take the medication for the entire time prescribed by your doctor. You may experience symptom relief before the prescription is complete, continue taking the medication anyway.

Do not take Rotacap capsules orally.

Tiova Inhalers should not be used if you are or have:

  • Angioderma
  • Hepatic disorder
  • Known allergy to tiotropium or ipratripium
  • Less than 10 years of age
  • Pregnant
  • Renal disorder

If you miss a dose, take it as soon as you remember, but no less than 12 before the next dose. Do not take an extra dose to make up for the missed one.
In case of an accidental overdose get immediate emergency medical attention. Symptoms of an overdose include:

  • Blurred vision
  • Dry mouth
  • Rapid or irregular heartbeat

When using Tiova Inhalers it is important to do all of the following:

  • Clean the inhaler at least once a month with water.
  • For best results take Tiova regularly.
  • Rinse mouth after each use to prevent dry mouth and throat irritation.

Store this medication out of the reach of children and pets.

Drug Interactions

As with most medications, there is a chance of experiencing a drug interaction when taking tiotropium bromide. Discuss with your doctor what medications you are taking to avoid a drug interaction; this includes prescriptions, over-the-counter medications, vitamins, and herbal products. Never start a new medication without approval from your doctor.
Your doctor or pharmacist can provide a complete list of drugs and medications that should be avoided while using Tiova.

How to use

Use Tiova Inhalers as prescribed by your doctor. You should not stop taking it or change the dosage without your doctor's approval. Take for the entire time prescribed by your doctor.
Do not swallow Inhalers; they are intended for use with a Rota inhaler.

To use Rota inhaler:

  • Open the Rota inhaler capsule, holding it horizontally with white spot up and lighter colored end in reverse direction. Breathe out.
  • Seal the mouth piece with lips.
  • Take a deep breath and hold in mouth for 10 seconds.
  • Then take a normal breath.
  • Throw used capsule shell away.

To prevent throat irritation or dry mouth, rinse mouth after each use.

Possible Side Effects

Some users may experience side effects when Tiova is taken. It is important that you are aware of possible side effects and what to do if you experience any of them. Not all users will experience a side effect.

  • Difficulty breathing
  • Deterioration in breathing condition
  • Dry mouth
  • Rapid heartbeat
  • Wheezing
  • Nosebleeds
  • Stuffy nose
  • Drowsiness
  • White patches in throat or mouth

Contact your doctor as soon as possible if you experience any side effects or seek immediate medical attention if the symptoms persist or get worse. If you experience any other unusual reaction after taking Tiova Inhalers contact your doctor immediately.
