What is Zocon DT?
Zocon DT is a prescription medication for the treatment of fungal infections called candidiasis or yeast infections. Your doctor may prescribe Zocon DT to treat throat infections, vaginal infections, urinary tract infections, peritonitis, pneumonia or fungal infections located elsewhere.


Patients receiving bone marrow transplants may be prescribed Zocon DT to prevent candidiasis. It is also used to treat brain or spinal cord inflammation (meningitis) that is caused by a different type of fungus.
The active ingredient in Zocon DT is fluconazole an antifungal medication.


Fluconazole is sold under different brand names including:

  • Diflucan
  • Zocon DT
  • Flucomet
  • Fluka

Zoncon DT is manufactured by FDC India. It is available in 10 mg, 50 mg and 200 mg strengths


Why is Zocon DT Prescribed
Zocon DT is prescribed when an infection is caused by a type of fungus that does not respond to normal antibiotic medications. Zocon DT can be prescribed for adults and children to fungal infections of the:

  • throat
  • urinary tract
  • peritonitis
  • cryptococcal meningitis
  • candidiasis prevention
  • systemic infections

What is the usual Dosage?
Dosage will vary depending on age, weight, and type of infection.


Throat Infections: dosage for an adult will vary from 100 - 400 mg per day based on the severity of the infection. Dosage for children is usually 6 mg per 2.2 pounds of weight for the first day and 3 mg per 2.2 pounds per day thereafter. Treatment continues for 2-3 weeks depending on the type of infection.


Urinary Tract Infections: dosage will vary from 50 - 200 mg per day.
Peritonitis: dosage will vary from 50 - 200 mg per day.


Cryptococcal Meningitis: usual dosage in 400 mg on the first day followed by 200 mg per day thereafter. Treatment usuallt continues for 10-12 weeks after spinal fluid tests come back negative. Patients with AIDs will often be prescribed a 200 mg dose per day to prevent a relapse.


Candidiasis Prevention: Dosage to prevent candidiasis infections during bone marrow transplants is usually 400 mg per day. Patients who also have kidney disease may receive a reduced dose.
Systemic Infections: Patients with bodywide infections receive up to 400 mg per day.
The dosage prescribed by your doctor may vary from those listed. They are only given as a reference.


How to Take Zocon DT
Take this medication exactly as prescribed and for the length of time prescribed. Even if you begin to feel better after only a few days, it can take weeks or sometimes months for the infections to be cured completely.
Do not change the dosage or stop taking the medication unless instructed to do so by your doctor.


The amount of your dosage will be determined by factors such as your age, weight, allergies, medical condition or the severity of the condition. Follow your doctors instruction for the best results.
Zocon DT can be taken with or without food.
Warnings and Precautions
Do not take Zocon DT or other medication such aseconazole, microncazole, terconazole clotrimazole, orsulconzole  if you are allergic to fluconazole or any of its other ingredients. Zocon DT should not be taken with certain medications.
Fluconazole should not be taken if you suffer from any of these medical conditions without your doctors approval:

  • liver disease
  • kidney disease
  • irregular heartbeat
  • long QT syndrome

Do not take if you are pregnant unless instructed by your doctor. Fluconazole is a category D drug and can be harmful to an unborn baby or cause birth defects. Use a form of contraception while taking Zocon DT. Do not take Zocon DT if breastfeeding, the drug can pass through the breast milk causing harm to the baby.


Your doctor may test you for liver damage while taking Zocon DT.
If you have a compromised immune system, your doctor will monitor you closely and you may be required to stop taking Zocon DT.


Zicon DT should be stored at room temperature; avoid temperatures above 86°F. Keep this medication out of the reach of children and pets.


Drug Interactions
Certain Medications may interact adversely when taken in combination with fluconazole. It is especially important that you inform your doctor if take any of these types of medications:

  • blood-thinning drugs such as coumadin
  • antidiabetic drugs such as orinase, diabeta,
  • astemizole
  • cyclosporine
  • hydrochlorothiazide
  • phenytoin
  • rifabutin
  • rifampin
  • tacrolimus
  • terfenadine
  • theophylline
  • ulcer medications such as tagamet

Potential Side Effects
As with all medications there is a chance of experiencing a potential side effect when taking Zicon DT.
If you develop any symptoms of an allergic reaction such as:

  • difficulty breathing
  • difficulty swallowing
  • hives
  • swelling of lips
  • swelling of tongue
  • swelling of face
  • swelling of throat

Get immediate medical attention if you have any sign of an allergic reaction.
Common side effects may include:

  • stomach pain
  • diarrhea
  • stomach upset
  • strange or bad taste in your mouth
  • headache
  • dizziness

If you experience any of these serious side effects, get medical attention as soon as possible:

  • body-ache
  • changes in color of stools
  • chills
  • dark urine
  • fever
  • itching
  • bleeding
  • bruising
  • flu-like symptoms
  • stomach pain
  • severe blistering or peeling of skin
  • seizures
  • red skin rash
  • nausea
  • loss of appetite
  • jaundice
  • abnormal weakness
